Somalia: Al-Shabab claims attack on government soldiers in Mogadishu
Presenter] Fierce fighting between Al-Shabab and government soldiers backed by AMISOM is taking place in parts of Abdiaziz District in Banaadir Region this morning. Our reporter Yahye Ali Farah has the details.
[Yahye] The fighting involving the use of various types of weapons started, according to Al-Shabab, when the militants launched an attack on transitional government soldiers who were mobilizing at the former Mogadishu port in Abdiaziz District.
In the fighting involving the use of various types of weapons, the AU peacekeepers are firing shells some of which are falling outside the theatre of combat. This morning’s fighting was preceeded by another fight which broke out last night during which shells fell in parts of Mogadishu districts.
Other reports say shells which landed in Kaaraan District killed one person and wounded four others. There are no further details from Al-Shabab apart from claiming that they carried out the attack. Similarly, there has been no comment from the government regarding the fighting.[ Passage omitted].
