Somalia: Al-Shabab orders aid organizations to register
[Presenter] Reports reaching us from parts of Gedo Region [southwestern Somalia] confirm that Al-Shabab Islamic administration in region has ordered aid organizations to register as soon as possible. Al-Shabab Islamist administration in Baardheere District in Gedo Region called aid organizations, civil society groups and both international and local NGOs to register in Al-Shabab’s regional administrational office in Baardheere District, southwestern Somalia.
Daud Muhammad, head of Al-Shabab Islamist administration of Baardheere District [southwestern Somalia], said that aid organizations are required to be present at district offices as soon as possible, adding that any organization which disobeys this order will be dealt with and will not be recognized.
This is the first time that Al-Shabab Islamist have imposed such restrictions on local and international NGOs in Gedo Region.
